“Prejudice in any form, racial or social, is destructive and costly to society. Today, social prejudice is accepted by society and few realize its destructive force. It kills motivation and increases overhead cost in business.” Robert L. Webb

We currently find ourselves in a climate of change as powerful protest and conversations surrounding racism and prejudices against Black Americans take place in our communities and workplaces. There is simply put, NO room for hate, discrimination, biases, and prejudices in today's world. As leaders we need to take a strong stance to do what is right and honor every life for their gifts, talents, race, ethnicity, and culture.
Embracing diversity and understanding it, must be at the forefront of what we do to collectively improve society. To bring about change each person must take inventory of their own biases and limitation to begin the journey of healing. Inclusion and diversity is not about right or wrong, it's about seeking understanding, building acceptance, and when in disagreement exhibiting tolerance and respect for each other. Every human being brings unique gifts and contributions and our responsibility is to harness those gifts and improve lives. Remember, it is people's fear of what they don't know or understand that keeps the cycle of violence and patterns of racism alive. It is up to each individual to voice and name every instance another individual is discriminated against. It is time to be brave for each other and to stand against racism.
This is the time for leaders to stand up and initiate conversations around social disparities among ethnic groups and biases. Doing so might bring about a paradigm shift of how you and your organization think about diversity. It might even create a safe place for people to connect, open the door to honest conversations and improve personal and professional relationships.
